Details

The Brainstorm DXD-16 PTP Grandmaster Universal Clock with GPS is a top - notch device. It combines PTP, GPS, and legacy Sync to synchronize traditional Audio/Video equipment and the IP network seamlessly. This makes the DXD truly universal in its application. The PTP module supports multiple versions like PTP v2, PTP v1 (Dante), and gPTP (AVB). The DXD - 16 can act as a PTP Grandmaster, slave, or Boundary Clock, working with various systems thanks to the widely - adopted Precision Time Protocol. It includes useful PTP profiles such as AES67, SMPTE 2059, and gPTP. As a Boundary Clock, it can follow an external Grandmaster, sync its internal clocks, and distribute the time. It can also serve as a Grandmaster on all attached networks. With four Gigabit Ethernet ports (RJ45), the DXD - 16 can use ports independently or in pairs. Each port supports an independent network, acting as a PTP timing bridge without data flowing between ports for security. The DXD - 16 can generate up to 6 independent sync signals and route them to 16 BNC outputs. These user - definable outputs offer great flexibility for video, audio, or other references, including standard SD and HD video sync formats, word clock, AES - 3id, and 10MHz. With the time code option, LTC is also available. It has a high - accuracy internal crystal oscillator (TCXO) for a stable frequency reference, and an optional oven - controlled oscillator (OCXO) can be installed. External legacy signals can be used as references, and the generated outputs have low jitter. Output rates are independent of the reference rate. The DXD - 16 offers exceptional flexibility as it can be a PTP slave or Grandmaster. As a slave, it can generate legacy sync for legacy equipment. As a master, it can lock to external legacy sources. It can also work as a stand - alone master, providing sync to both the network and legacy equipment. The GPS receiver option in the DXD - 16 provides an accurate timing source, allows remote units to be in phase, and gives it higher priority as a PTP Grandmaster. Key features include flexibility, 4 independent Ethernet ports, multiple PTP roles, support for various PTP versions, sync with different sources, 6 reference generators, 16 BNC outputs, 2 BNC inputs, NTP server and client functions, TOD Time Code generation (optional), remote control via web browser, and available options like GPS receiver, OCXO, and Time Code.

Using the Brainstorm DXD - 16 PTP Grandmaster Universal Clock with GPS is quite straightforward. First, when setting it up, connect the Ethernet cables to the four Gigabit Ethernet ports (RJ45) according to your network needs. You can use the ports independently or in pairs as primary and secondary. If you want to use the external reference, connect the appropriate signals like word clock, AES, video sync, or 10MHz to the 2 BNC input connectors. Make sure to set the 75 OHMS termination switch correctly. For the sync signals, you can configure the 16 BNC outputs to suit your requirements. You can assign different generated references, video, or audio signals to these outputs. Just remember that these outputs are user - definable, so take your time to set them up as you need. When it comes to the PTP function, you can choose whether the DXD - 16 acts as a Grandmaster, slave, or Boundary Clock. If it's a Boundary Clock, it will follow an external Grandmaster on one network, sync its internal clocks, and distribute the time on other networks. If you've installed the GPS receiver, ensure that the SMA antenna is properly connected. The GPS will provide an accurate timing source and help remote units stay in phase. For maintenance, keep the device in a clean and dry environment. Check the power supply regularly. The DXD - 16 has dual power sources (AC and DC) with auto - switchover, so in case of a power failure, it will keep running. Also, if you use the battery backup, make sure to replace the battery when needed to keep the internal backup clock running. When using the remote control via a web browser, ensure your network connection is stable. You can also use the 3 GPIO inputs (DB - 25) for additional control and the 3 GPIO outputs (DB - 25) for alarms. Lastly, if you've programmed presets, you can quickly recall them for specific settings. And don't forget to check the 2.4” TFT LCD display for important information about the device's status.
